PROJECT PURPOSE – The DC Drag Community has a rich history and has played a significant role in the city’s cultural scene, activism, and LGBTQ+ rights movement. This project will illustrate the Importance of documenting the drag community’s evolution and impact.
PROJECT ONE (Drag Chronicles – The State of Drag) – BROCHURE – The transformation of drag culture from an art form to a form of activism is a significant aspect of the DC Drag Community’s history. Panelists will discuss how they have seen the community change over time, what they believe are the key factors driving this transformation, and what they hope for the future of drag as a force for social change.
PROJECT TWO (Drag Chronicles – Profiles in Drag) – Creating webisodes is a way to share the personal stories and experiences of the individuals who make up the DC Drag Community, as well as highlight their impact on the city and beyond.
PROJECT THREE (Drag Chronicles – A Drag Novelette) – Utilizing the novelette format we can chronicle drag performers who have been around to see how the drag community changes over the years. We will be able to read personal stories, but also see the history by first person accounts of the impact the drag community has had over the years.
FINAL PROGRAM – The final program will be a drag performance because who doesn’t love a good drag performance! We will work with different drag performers during each program so that we can reach drag performers (both Drag Queens/Kings) in all communities.
